Welcome!
Here you’ll find creative nonfiction, invitations to deepen your own creative practice, plus occasional prompts and workshops.
I’ll also share updates on my in-progress memoir and news about this space as it grows.
Fox in the Dark is currently free to read. I’d love for you to join me.
I’m so glad to have you here.
I’m a writer and editor of creative nonfiction.
A former columnist at Catapult, my writing has appeared in Bright Wall/Dark Room, The Audacity, The Rumpus, and elsewhere. I serves as Head of Writer Experience at the London Writers’ Salon and am the founding co-editor of Writers’ Hour Magazine. Previously, I was Assistant Books Editor at Barrelhouse.
I’m at work on a memoir about the intersection of motherhood, madness, and art-making centered around my time spent playing Ophelia in Hamlet.
I have an MFA in acting from The New School and live in Brooklyn.
“Lindsey Trout Hughes writes one of my favourite Substacks. Memoir writing and reflections on life as a writer, mother, and creative.”
“Just unbelievably gorgeous writing.”
“Lindsey Trout Hughes’s essay is the most beautiful thing I’ve read all week. Read right on to the end if you’re in need of words that make your chest ache.”
“I was moved from the first line to the last, living your tenderness and feeling my own.”
“Lindsey, you have moved me at the core. Sorrow and joy; endings and beginnings; gratitude; possibilities, unbounded wisdom. Thank you for your beautiful inspiration.”
